Ardis Ronte Eriksen was born in 1955 and grew up in the márkosámi area Lánttedievvá in Skánik. When she was young, she became interested in Sámi politics and has among other things been an active member in Tromsø’s and her local Sámi association.
In the late 70’s together with two others with the shared interest in Sami fashion, they started a project where they investigated the shape and use of gákti in their home municipalities, Ofoten and Sør-Troms. A book of the project was written in 1986, Torbjørg A.Inga / Elrun Ronte Eriksen / Ardis Ronte Eriksen: Samisk kofteskikk i Ofoten / Sør-Troms, and several sewing workshops for gákti and sámi traditional hats were held here and there. She has chosen to allocate her time and energy to Sami purposes in her home area. Accordingly, she participated in developing Sámi day-care offers to EDS areas in 1986, volunteered there as a worker and in developing a suitable day-care building and yard in 1991, and managing the day-care as a volunteer until Várdobáiki undertook the business in 2003.
She studied teaching in Tromsø and has a master’s in sámi linguistics from the University of Tromsø. She has worked as a teacher in both primary school and college. Together with colleagues from Skániid college, she published digital teaching aids in Norwegian for college students to learn about Sámi history and Sámi traditional folk poetry.
