Elle Márjá Eira is a yoiker (juoigi), singer, director, composer, producer and an active ambassador for the Sámi culture and rights. She belongs to the reindeer district 26 -Lákkonjárga. Eira was grown up in Máze,but now lives in Guovdageaidnu.
Elle Márjá has distinguished herself as a strong and uncompromising voice in Sápmi for several years across genres and forms of expression as an artist, joiker, director, producer and composer. She has directed and produced a number of short films, art films and music videos. Previously worked in NRK Sápmi and in the Sámi National Theater Beaivváš. She is an artist partner in Dáiddadállu / Sámi artist collective. Elle Márjá is now involved in the band project Snoweye as well as several other film and art projects.
Sung in her native Sápmi language, her songs are inspired by the atmosphere of her home, resonating with the spirits meeting at the intersection between joiks, electronic and Indigenous music. Inspired by the tundra, forests and the day-to-day life of her upbringing in a sámi reindeer herding family, distilled through glistening music landscapes provided by
Morten Hyld Pettersen.
Since 2017, Elle has also been a part of the Snoweye project, alongside Scottish artist Lucy Parnell and former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. She recently collaborated with composer Christophe Beck for the soundtrack of the feature film, The 12th Man by Harald Zwart.
