Artist’s statement Marte Lill Somby
Marte Lill Somby is an multimedia Sami and Norwegian artist who works with various graphic techniques, photography and daiddaduodji/Sami crafts related to sculpture and installations.
Thematically related to violence and abuse, mental health and identity expressed through metaphorical investigations at the intersection of body and mind.
With inspiration and anchoring in Sami perspectives and mindsets, she explores connections between body, nature and inner landscape. Closely related to material choices. Also through her own experiences.
Through her artistic work, she wants to open up for reflection on what is often invisible, the inner landscapes we carry with us, which are about life and death.
Concept, method and materials are alternated between in the form of what she wants to convey.
Artists statement Marte Lill Somby
