My interest in writing and artistic practice comes from my inner sources; my love and gratitude for our ancestral, rich, and powerful Sápmi, our nature, our spirit, and our beautiful people with their smiling eyes.
I wrote the first original Sámi children’s book in history, and that advanced the Sámi literature to the contemporary - suddenly the Sámi were writing their own books instead of just translating from other languages!
I have also worked a lot in theatre. The first time was when I was very young, and we made one of the first Sámi theaters via Sámi youth’s association in Kárášjohka. We performed at Guovdageaidnu Easter festival which was new at the time, and it was a big success.
After that, Britta Marakatt Labba and I worked with a Sámi children’s puppet theatre for years. We went on long tours with the puppet theatre Somara. We toured in Sápmi, Norway and Sweden with the agenda to spread joy to and raise the confidence of Sámi children. I was the director, actor, and editor.
I also founded the Sámi writer’s association (the first Sámi artist’s association) together with Aillohaš and John Gustavsen.
I have also travelled around the world, I have visited South America, Australia, Hawaii, Canada, Europe, and I lived in the USA. It has been very important to me to get to know other indigenous peoples and tribes.
I have been working with visual arts the last 20 years.
