Film director Ellen-Astri Lundby won the Norwegian short film festival in 1989 with her first film "To tette og en badehette" (Knock Out). She is also a skilled screen writer both for short fiction and feature length documentaries.
Ellen-Astri Lundby is a director with several award-winning films, including the two personal and at the same time cultural-historical documentaries ”Suddenly Sámi” (2009) and ”Joik Fever” (2014). These are films that have gained a place in the collective awareness of the Sami and are still used in many contexts. Her latest documentary ”Burning Memories” (2018) has been shown on NRK and in cinemas in several places and has gained good reviews for how it lifts north Norwegian war history towards the present, where millions are constantly fleeing war. It has received several awards and honorary awards, including the Audience Award at the Minneapolis & St. Paul International Film Festival, USA and the Nordic / Docs Award for Best Photography by film photographer Nils Petter Lotherington.
