Any Sami visual artist, craftsman, dáiddaduojár, duojár, artistic photographer can apply for membership in Sámi Artist Union – Sámi Dáiddačehpiid Searvi (SDS). To become a member of SDS, the applicant must have 3 points of the criteria mentioned under points 1-8

ARTISTIC ACTIVITIES (more specified in admission criteria, see on the website)

Important: For all exhibitions, state the time, place and exhibition organizer. For decorations/competitions, state the organizer.

1. Completed higher artistic education *

2. Participation in country and/or regional exhibitions where a jury is appointed by the professional group organisations *

3. Solo exhibition at Sámi Dáiddaguovddáš or other gallery where application for exhibition space is considered by visual artists, craftsmen, dáiddaduojárat, artistic photographers *

4. Participation in juried collective and/or group exhibitions organized by SDS or other exhibitions where the jury consists of visual artists, craftsmen, dáiddaduojárat, artistic photographers *

5. Awarded grants on the recommendation of the SDS Artistic Council or other recommendation committees consisting of visual artists, craftsmen, dáiddaduojárat, artistic photographers *

6. Art commissions or prizes in competition mediated through regional cooperation committees and/or for decoration assignments where the rules for public art have been followed. Enter the year *

7. Purchased by the Sámi Parliament's purchasing scheme for contemporary art and dàiddaduodji or other purchasing committees where the majority of the committee consists of visual artists, craftsmen, dáiddaduojárat, artistic photographers. Enter the year *

8. Positive evaluation when submitting documentation of artistic activity (pictorial material/ video attached to the application). Attachments cannot exceed 50 MB per application.

To become a member of the association Sami Composers you must have:

– a formal musical background or equivalent prior learning
– Work in professional creative artistic production with music
– a grounding in Sami culture

Artistic activities

Membership can be applied for by anyone who works professionally with Sami performing arts and/or has relevant education. Implicitly, this means that members of SL work professionally as actors, dancers, choreographers, playwrights, scenographers, costume designers, lighting designers, theatre musicians/composers, technicians and directors.
Students taking relevant higher education within the performing arts may apply for student membership. Student membership is to be understood as an aspirant membership where the member has the right to speak and make proposals at the annual meeting but does not have voting rights and is not eligible for office. Students pay half the membership fee.
Only individuals may become members of SL.
