Visual artist Kirsi Máret Paltto works with sculptures and installations based on Sámi duodji.
Kirsi Máret Paltto works with birch burls and other wooden material, and combines it with wool and textile, and sometimes rusty steel and glass, in her sculptors and installations. She has learned duodji from home and has also studied duodji as a starting point for art at Sámi oahpahusguovddáš (Sámi Education Center) in Anár/Inari.
In 2024 she had a duo-exhibition "Forest of the Sacred Trees" at Rovaniemi Art Museum together with Jouni S. Laiti. She is one of 25 Sámi Artists participating at Sápmi Triennale, shown at Buvvdá/Bodø Museum in the autumn 2024, Sami Center for Contemporary Art, Karasjok and Rovaniemi Art Museum (2025), and Oulu cultural capital and Kin Museum of Contemporary Art in Kiruna (2026).
In her artworks Kirsi Máret Paltto often reflect on human emotions and the spirituality of nature.
