Sigbjørn Skåden grew up in Planterhaug in Skånland municipality.
He published his first book in 2004, the poetry book Skuovvadedjiid gonagas (Norwegian: Skomakernes konge), and has since published another poetry book, three novels and a children's book.
The books have been nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Awards, the NRK listeners' novel prize and have won the Havmann Awards with the novel Våke over dem som sover. His latest book is the Norwegian novel Fugl (2019).
In addition to writing books, Skåden has often participated in artistic projects together with artists from other kindred disciplines and has written several texts for stages and in other genres. Besides, this year he got the title of the “Year’s Young Artist” at the Riddu Riđđu festival, was a prologue author for the Festival in Northern Norway and chosen author in the European poetry platform Versopolis. As a cultural worker, Skåden has been engaging for Sámi issues both in his home municipality and nationally. He was one of the founders of the Márkomeannu festival and was the festival's leader for 7 years. He has also been the deputy leader in both Sámi writer’s association, The Norwegian Writers' Association and Ordkalotten literature Festival in Tromsø.
