I have been working as a freelance artist since 2008. Prior to that I worked as an editor for Yle Sámi radio for a couple of decades. I have written 7 poetry books, 2 children’s books, a youth novel, and a textbook about Buolbmatjávri.
The best place for writing is Buolbmatjávri, alone in my room in the attic, with a view directly to the lake Buolbmatjávri and the mountains.
I have travelled to numerous poetry festivals and literature festivals throughout the world. Travelling has opened my eyes to a lot of different matters. Due to poetry festivals my books have been published in e.g. Kenya, Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador and Colombia.
My goal is always to improve myself as an author. Sometimes I write poems in a certain way, like I did in my book Beaivváš čuohká gaba, where I divided the syllables in 5-7-7. In my book Suonat I wrote short poems to images. In my most recent poetry book 69 Čuoldda, where the theme was eroticism, I wrote longer poems than I usually do. I wrote the youth book Tropihka because I wanted to prove to myself that I could write novels too, and I wrote the children’s books Riebaniid bihpporgáhkkut and Čáhcerávgga gazza, because I noticed there weren’t enough Sami children’s books to read for my son. My most recent work is a 350-page long book about my home place Buolbmatjávri.
Poetry is at the base of my heart. Being in the poets’ association is very valuable for me.
