Through dance Marika wants to spread knowledge about her Sámi origin, and all her dance pieces are based on / or containing thoughts and ideas originating from the Sami culture.
– My dream is to spread knowledge and comprehension of the Sámi culture through dance.
Marika has worked as a dance teacher at the YMCA in Borlänge and has in recent years been working with her own dance-workshops for children and youth in the countryside and within Sámi events.
2018 she started a project about seeing cultures and minorities, and how to build bridges between cultures. This project resulted in the dance performance ”Mannem vuajnah”, with working residency at Riksteatern Hallunda, Stockholm 2019.
February 2020 she joined Liv Aira’s project ”Ájttega”, the premiere of which took place at Jokkmokks winter market fest. Still touring.
December 2020 Marika started the projekt ”Akti lij” together with danceartist Liv Aira. Akti lij is a dance performance for children, about Sámi old story-telling conveyed through dance. They have now been touring it in both Sweden through Norrlands Operan and Norway through Åerjel Saemien teahtere and have been shown to about 3000 children 2021-2022.
